Jan-Aug 2009 charter flight arrivals statistics

Rhodes minimises flight arrival loses for 2009. 
The latest statistics show that from Jan-Aug there was a decrease of -3,1% in relation to tourist arrivals (999k in 2009 vs 1031k in 2008).
Arrivals for the same period increased in the following markets: France (+24k or +302%), Israel (+14,5k or +63%), Norway (+11k or +31%) and Sweden (+6,5 or +12%).
But the economic crisis took its toll on the volume of tourists arriving from Italy (-22k or -19%), England (-16 or -8%), Holland (-16 or -24%), Austria (-11k or -23%) and Germany (-10k or -6,5%).

Rhodes as a tourism product retains its strength despite the odds, showing the lowest decrease on arrivals compared to all other Greek destinations.
From Jan-July 2009 the tourist arrivals for Rhodes were reduced by a minor -2,8% vs 2008, unlike other Greek destinations which experienced a sharper decrease: 
Heraklio -10,1%, Corfu -9,9%, Kos -8,75%, Chania -6,1%. 

With respect to Rhodes, the markets that showed an increase on arrivals were  France +19k or +325%, Norway 7,9k or +32%, Israel +8k or +43%, Sweden +5k or +12% 
On the contrary , the markets with the sharper decrease were : Italy -13k or -21%, Holland -12,2k or -25,5%, UK -9,8k or -7,1%, Germany -9k or 7,5%
